Band Members attended a Reception with the Lord Mayor

Last night a small delegation of our band attended an evening reception with our Lord Mayor Alderman Graham Warke at our City’s famous Guildhall.

A great evening enjoyed by everyone as we toured the famous building learning of its centuries of history not least with its hundreds of stained glass windows, each of them telling their own story.

Unbeknownst & surprisingly to us all is the large catalogue of artifacts, in every corner of every room in the building, portraying to the Protestant, Unionist people of the city and how they landscaped the history of the city of Londonderry.

We then enjoyed a buffet meal & a few refreshments where the Lord Mayor spoke in conversation with us all about his time in tenure and his ambitions & plans for the future of the city in which he is confident he is soon to pass on in good stead.

With a local & family connection to our band the stories & memories of old started with many a night and bus runs around the country recollected particularly amongst some of our more older members.

These stories are the backbone of the band & one I will never get bored of hearing as our generation of members make our own memories hopefully to pass along to our youth.

Most strikingly, the Lord Mayor spoke of his passion, love & determination to help raise vital funds for a local charity namely, Foyle Down Syndrome Trust, which since his time in office, has gripped his heartstrings, both from the dedication of the workstaff, employees and the many many people in the city that benefits from this charity.

Pride of the Orange and Blue Flute Band were happy to pledge a donation towards Foyle Down Syndrom Trust and we hope it goes in some small way to helping this great local charity.

Another great night in the bands History and we wish the Lord Mayor Alderman Graham Warke all the best for the rest of his tenure and any future roles he takes up.
