Local ‘Relief of Londonderry’ Celebration Event Cancelled

Club Statement

Castlederg Branch, Campsie Club of the Apprentice Boys of Derry regrets to announce that our Branch Club has withdrawn its application for a Parade in Castlederg on the evening of 7th August 2021. This event was to have marked the Relief of the city of Londonderry at the lifting of the great siege in 1689.

Our Branch Club met recently to review this Parade in light of Covid infections remaining high in Northern Ireland, and specifically the recent marked rise in cases in our own Castlederg (BT81) area.

Whilst various options were discussed, the Branch came to the regrettable decision that the only responsible way forward, for the good of our community and the wellbeing and continued good standing of our Branch within our area, was to cancel our proposed Relief Celebration.

It should be remembered that our Branch Club has endured a loss directly from Covid, and several members are currently self-isolating either through contact or positive testing.

We thank all Clubs, Brethren and Bands who had indicated they would attend our event and look forward to being able to resume our valued Celebrations and Commemorations at a safer time for all.
