The Orange Order has paid tribute to an elderly couple killed when their car crashed into a bog in Co Monaghan on Friday.
Joseph and Louise Waller, aged in their 70s, were travelling along the R213 near Killyneill Cross at around 6pm when their car left the road near the Armagh border. A Garda spokesman said the couple were pulled from the vehicle which had landed in marshland, but they were pronounced dead at the scene.
Co Monaghan Grand Master Keith Browne said the entire Orange family in the area has been left shocked by the tragedy.
“The Waller family have a long association with Orangeism in the Glaslough area and are well known throughout Co Monaghan Orangeism and further afield,” he said. “I would like to convey the condolences of all our members at this sad time and assure the family of our prayerful support in the days ahead.”
A funeral notice says the pensioners from Mullaghpeak, Emyvale, will be “lovingly remembered” by family including their son David, daughter-in-law Marina and five grandchildren.
A funeral service will take place tomorrow at 2pm in St Salvator’s Church, Glaslough, before the couple are laid to rest in the Caledon Road cemetery.
